THE SECRETS OF WORSHIP

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

What is spirit?

Word of God is spirit.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63)

What is truth?

Word of God is truth.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17)

What does it mean to worship God with truth and spirit?

1. It means to worship God according to His Word.

2. It means to worship God with our Body, Soul and Spirit.

In Worship there are three important elements

1. Praising God – It should come out of our mouth (Body)

2. Giving thanks to God – It should come out of our heart (Soul)

3. Glorifying God – It should come out of our inner man. (Spirit)

Where we should Worship God?

We should worship God in holiness. Before we worship God, we should get right with God according to His Word.

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. (Psalms 96:9, 29:2, 1 Chronicles 16:29, 2 Chronicles 20:21)

1. Praising God

What it means to praise God?

Praising God means to exalt Him or lift His name up.  Without reason no one will exalt anyone. A person will be exalted according to his specialties.

Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. (Psalms 118:28)

The Holy Bible gives us God’s specialties like Who He is, What He is and How He is different from others by reveling His attributes and What He has done, doing and will do. When we know all these things we can exalt God and lift His name up.

Why we should praise God?

The Holy Bible says that it is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing praises unto His Name. It is very good to us to do what the Bible says it is good thing.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. (Psalms 92:1-2)

Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. (Psalms 147:1)

God saved us and continues to save us from grave not to be silent but to sing praise to Him and to give thanks unto Him for ever. King David said that the Lord will “Enlighten his Darkness” (Psalms 18:28), and the Lord had “Enlarged Him in Distress” (Psalms 4:1) and the Lord had “Turned his Mourning into Dancing” that he may sing praise and give thanks to Him and not to be silent. (Psalms 30:11, 12)

God doesn’t need to change our past to change our present and God doesn’t need to change our circumstances to change our situation. He can just change us from who, what and where we are.

For when we were yet “without strength” (Romans 5:6)

“Sinners” (Romans 5:8)

“Enemies” (Romans 5:8) Christ died and rose again for us. We saved by grace through faith believing in the Birth, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So we should not be silent but we are always intended to praise God for His salvation through Jesus Christ. To praise the name of the Lord, God will restore you all that you have lost in your past.

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. (Joel 2:25, 26)

 2. Giving Thanks to God

What it means to give thanks to God?

We praise God for His specialties but we give thing to God for experiencing His specialties in our life.

There are many benefits, wonderful and marvelous works that the Lord had done in our lives that we should be thankful to Him.

King David said, Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: (Psalms 147:7) I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. (Psalms 69:30)

Why we should give thanks to God?

Giving thanks to God in every thing is the will of God in our lives.

Many times we pray to know the Will of God in our lives. The Holy Bible very clearly says that In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Jesus Christ is our best model to give thanks to God in everything.

When there were only 5 loaves and 2 fishes to feed 5000 men beside women and children Jesus did not worry about the unavailable loaves and fishes but He gave thanks to God for the available five loaves and two fishes. When Jesus gave thanks for them, God blessed them. When God blessed them they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained 12 baskets full. (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:33-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-14)

In another instance, when there were only 7 loves and a few little fishes to feed 4000 men, beside women and children. Jesus took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks to God. God blessed them and they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left 7 baskets full. (Matthew 15:32-39, Mark 8:1-9)

Satan always makes us to forget the available things and reminds us the unavailable things. That’s why many of us are not able to give thanks to God for the benefits that He had already done in our lives and murmur for the things that the Lord has not done yet.

3. Giving Glory to God

What it means to give Glory to God?

We praise God for His specialties and we give thing to God for experiencing His specialties in our life and we give all Gory to God for understating that we are no special on our to experience His specialties in our life.

We give all Glory to God for all the benefits, wonderful and marvelous works that the Lord had done in our lives to humble ourselves and lift Him above every thing.

Why we should give glory to God?

We give all glory to God because we love Him.

Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. (Psalms 70:4)

Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake. (Psalms 115:1)

King David Praised God all the time.

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalms 34:1)

King David gave thanks to God for ever.

To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever. (Psalms 30:12)

King David Glorified God for evermore.

I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. (Psalms 86:12)
